Nicaragua Orphanage for Girls

Many of you know that the Sweet family enjoys spending their winters in Granada, Nicaragua. Last February, Andrea and Larrie visited a girls orphanage and fell in love with the spirit and life of the 19 girls that are housed there.
During their visit that day, they noticed the girls did not have simple necessities, like sheets for their beds, towels, or shampoo. Of course Andrea went to the market the next afternoon and bought shampoo, soap and hair bows, but the bigger problem was buying sheets and towels for all the girls.
One friday night when they got back to Charlotte, Andrea and Larrie had a spontaneous hot dog night at their condo and started talking about Ingrid and Maria and Carmen. Larrie showed the others pictures and simply enough they raised unexpected $650!!
Now the girls will have sheets and towels and extra cloth to buy a sewing machine that each girl will have time to use to learn the trade of sewing.
More money has been raised and is being sent down this month. The funds are being sent to a friend, Nancy, who buys what the girls need. Just a little grass roots effort helping 19 precious girls.
More pics and stories to come.

March Workshops

March is the perfect month for small gardening. March is that limbo month where it is too early to really plant for fears of a late frost. Even though we have had an extremely mild winter.
Terrarium gardens and Fairy Gardening are two ideas to get your gardening fix without the risk of losing tender new follage. Terrariums have made a revivial this year with cool glass globes and hanging glass teardrops. When they are planted, terrariums require little maintenence and care. Perfect for a busy schedule.

Let your imagination go crazy with Fairy Gardening. Provide a place for your fairies to dance and make mischief with a Fairy Container garden. New birdhouses, benches, chairs, and LIGHTS!! to entertain your fairies.

After overwhelming request, our Container Garden workshop is back. Create lasting containers for your front door, side patio or for hostess gifts.Call us for more information on any of these workshops. Bring a friend and make a fun day of gardening.

March 10th - Terrariums

March 17th - Fairy Workshop

March 24th - Container Workshop

Price of the workshop is free. We charge only for the materials and products used.

Other bits . . .

+ Of course, we still have a huge assortment of containers, concrete, glazed, lite weight, and terra cotta containers to plant.

+ Herbs, antique roses, vegetables, and some perennials will start arriving the end of the month.

+ Don't have time to plant your own containers? Let us do it. Call us for more information.

What is a Fairy Garden?

What is a fairy garden? Quite simply a fairy garden is a place for your fairies to dance, play and make mischief.

Why would you make a place for fairies? Well fairies can cause lots of trouble by making messes and pulling up plants; things you thought the squirrels or chipmunks did. And it is great for a table arrangement and for the grandkids to play. Fairies like when you rearrange the garden.

How do you put together a fairy garden? You need a few things and a big imagination. When designing your garden, fairies need place to dance, a place to hide, and a place to sleep.
Of course we will be hosting a fairy garden workshop February 25th to help inspire and guide you through. Reserve and build your own space, complete with fairy dust to bring your fairies. Call the shoppe to save your spot.

Fairy Garden Workshop!

Who knew 10 ladies could have so much fun making their very own fairy gardens? Here are a few of the gardens that were painstakingly put together.

Many different elements were used to create homes and habitats for their special fairies. Caves, lean-tos, paths, secret places, hiding places, houses, and teepees, all for fairies!
Some had plants, some had none, some had arbors made from rosemary, some were just moss paths and some had blankets to keep their fairies warm. But each was different and special to the fairies that will live there. We will do it again in February so call us for details.
